Reverse Raffle

A Night at the Hop

Saturday, April 28 at 7 PM - 10 PM

RMHC partnered with Marshall University’s PR students for the 4th year to host this fundraiser. The raffle is part of the capstone course for JMC 439, public relations campaign management, which gives students real-world experience of working at a PR firm. Each year, the class takes on a charity organization to campaign for, orchestrating events to meet the needs of the client.
“This event has grown into one of our marquee events,” Jaye Toler, development director for RMH, said. “Because the classes before them have laid a strong foundation, each time a new group hosts this, they have the ability to grow it – to let it evolve.”
Toler said working with Marshall University students is an added bonus. “It’s special, working with these students,” she said. “They’re the next generation of professionals, so I feel grateful to be part of their learning process. And credit to Dr. Terry Hapney, their professor, because not only are they honing their skills professionally; they are also giving back to their community. It’s a beautiful concept, and one they can be proud of. Each group that has worked on this campaign has a particular set of strengths, and this one is no different. They are building on those before them, and creating a very dynamic event."

This event was the closing tactic for the student's campaign. The students raised a total of over $11,000.
